An Introduction

Situated in the northern suburbs of Pretoria, Fatima House can accommodate 12 young women.  It was established in 1959 by the Good Shepherd Sisters to provide a safe haven for pregnant young women who wished to escape from physical, emotional or sexual abuse, rape and dysfunctional family systems.

The Good Shepherd Sisters, linked to the Catholic Church, are a worldwide congregation who work towards empowering and healing girls and women in marginalized and abusive situations.

The girls are cared for in a home environment.  This holistic program includes intensive therapy that encourages a sense of self-worth and healing.  In our rehabilitation we strive to reconcile families where possible.

Fatima House has always believed in the dignity of women, the value of life and that a child has a right to be born.  The girls are assisted and supported in their decision-making about the future, whether it is to keep their babies, to put the baby into foster care for the time being, or to allow the baby to go for adoption.

The girls go to Pretoria West Hospital for antenatal care and the birth of their babies.  Such quality care gives the babies a better chance of being born healthy.
